Extra-Curricular Sport Case Studies

These case studies show how schools across the country (and beyond) are addressing challenges they face when providing co-curricular/extra-curricular sport. They showcase a variety of approaches to embedding school sport and what they were able to achieve as a result.

Overview

The Education Policy Institute's (EPI) report on extra-curricular sport, published in February 2024, underscores its critical role in enhancing academic performance and social skills among children and young people.

The report highlights that regular participation in sport-based activities is associated with improved concentration, better classroom behaviour, and higher academic achievement. Additionally, it points out that sport helps to develop essential social skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership, which are invaluable for personal development and future employability.

As a result, the Youth Sport Trust have created the following case studies to help demonstrate best practice. You can download them individually or as a single document - whichever best suits your needs.
