PE and School Sport Report survey - Teachers 2024

New research showing that teachers are concerned about children’s physical and mental health and recognise the benefits of play and sport.

To inform the annual Youth Sport Trust’s PE and School Sport Report and the launch of National School Sports Week, we commissioned Teacher Tapp to conduct research with over 8,000 teachers to understand their current attitudes and views. We found:

  • 65% agree that children entering reception this year are not as school ready as children were prior to the pandemic
  • 50% report poor behaviour of pupils as the most important issue in their school
  • Nearly all teachers recognise that sport and play help children’s physical, mental and social wellbeing
  • There is low awareness of the amount of physical activity a child should be doing in and out of school
