Get Your MP Involved in National School Sports Week 2025

Join the Youth Sport Trust in encouraging MPs to visit local schools during National School Sports Week and witness firsthand the power of physical activity in shaping happier, healthier children.

National School Sports Week 2025 is coming soon – and we want to use the week to highlight to MPs across the country why taking part in PE, sport and play is so important to children and young people.

The week (which begins on Monday 16 June) will highlight the importance of giving every child opportunities to be active for 60 minutes a day, including a focus on breaking down barriers so all young people can take part.

With most MPs spending Fridays in their constituencies, the Youth Sport Trust is encouraging our networks to use Friday 20 June as an opportunity to invite MPs to attend local activities, see for themselves the power of play and sport, and explore how they can support our mission to create change and give every child an active start in life.

Follow the simple steps below to help us use National School Sports Week to shape the conversation and make delivering physical activity during and around the school day a priority all politicians can get behind.

Plan your activity

On Friday 20 June, we want as many MPs as possible visiting schools in their constituencies, seeing firsthand the enjoyment children get from being active. We want them to hear from young people and teachers about the impact it has on their wellbeing and development and the need for support to continue the delivery of high-quality, engaging experiences.

If you already have plans for that date, this presents a perfect opportunity. If not, and you’re looking for inspiration, take a look at our National School Sports Week page for inspiration and fun activities to deliver, as well as how the Youth Sport Trust is celebrating the classic Sports Day in our 30th anniversary year.

As part of your discussions, consider:

  • What will you be asking MPs to see, who will they be able to speak to and how will you be promoting
  • What information can you share in due course such as around addresses, parking, attendees etc
  • What narrative and messages do you want to communicate (we can share briefings on national campaign messaging to supplement your local ambitions)
  • For School Games Organisers, adding your event to your School Games Events Calendar so we are aware of your event and can reach out with support

Contact your MP

The next step is to contact your MP – if you’re not sure who yours is, you can find out by entering your school’s postcode here. Once you’ve done so, you’ll get information about your MP including an email address you can use to contact them directly.

To help, we’ve created the template email below for you to use and tailor as you see fit, which:

  • Invites MPs to the activity you’re delivering on Friday 20 June
  • Invites MPs who want to support National School Sports Week to a Parliamentary event the Youth Sport Trust is holding in early June

Dear [insert name] MP

I am [insert role] at [insert school] and I am writing to invite you to join us at an event in your constituency on Friday 20 June in support of National School Sports Week 2025

National School Sports Week is an annual campaign led by the Youth Sport Trust, a charity dedicated to ensuring all children can access the life changing benefits of play and sport. Through activity across the week, it aims to celebrate the role of physical activity including PE and school sport in developing happier, healthier children, and encourage policy makers to ensure every child is regularly physically active to support their wellbeing and skills development, whilst being with friends and having fun. You can find out more about National School Sports Week here.

I would like to invite you to join us at [insert school, details including timings and overview of activity, including anything media/social media plans you have].

In addition, I wanted to make you aware that the Youth Sport Trust will be holding a Parliamentary drop-in from 2-4pm, Wednesday 4 June, Room R Portcullis House, where MPs will have the opportunity to meet and be photographed with Montell Douglas (who has represented Great Britain in both the Summer and Winter Olympics) to show their support for the campaign. If you would like to attend, please contact [email protected]

Thank you for taking the time to consider this request and I hope you are able to join us and demonstrate your commitment to supporting children and young people to be active. Please let me know if any further information would be helpful and I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Yours sincerely,

Keep up posted

Finally, we’d love to hear about any engagement you secure so we can support you through briefings and by promotion via our channels. To keep us updated or if you have any questions we can support with, please contact the Youth Sport Trust’s Head of Policy and Public Affairs at [email protected]

Thank you for working with us to promote National School Sports Week 2025.
