BILD develops life skills in young people

Queen Chipeta is one of the young sports leaders trained by Youth Sport Trust International in August 2024 during the first phase of the BILD Malawi programme.  Since then, she has been delivering sports activities for children from a range of backgrounds and different abilities in her community.

One child that particularly stands out for Queen is a 12 year old boy called Proud who struggled to interact with other children, especially girls, during these sports activities.  Queen quickly recognised that the BILD programme was an opportunity to help Proud, an only child from a rural community who had not yet started school.

Queen spoke to Proud’s parents to encourage them to start Proud’s education and reached out to a local school teacher to start to integrate Proud into a formal learning environment.  At the same time, Queen patiently worked with him to take on new challenges during the sports activities and to grow his self confidence.

Proud is now consistently one of the top seven participants in every game session during the activities and Queen is hopeful that he will be one of the standout participants in the upcoming festival of activities.

“I am proud of the steps he has taken in his academic journey, marking the beginning of his education and a promising future as both a player and a leader” remarks Queen.
