Celebrating National School Sport Week with Megan

Join Megan as she shares her experience of attending the 2024 National School Sport Week celebrations.

Hey, I’m Megan, and in June this year I attended National School Sport Week with the Youth Sport Trust – my first event volunteering as a Team Leader. It was such an amazing experience, made even better by being surrounded by enthusiastic students! I and other people from Youth Sport Trust led and delivered football activities for the students to participate in. This included football golf (a personal favourite), football cricket and football athletics. During this day, we also had athlete mentors join us, and this was another inspiring aspect for the students as they got to interact with and talk to successful athletics from a variety of different sports. Watching the Q&A session, you could see how amazed the students were by their stories, and they really took the advice on board. This was such a lovely and heartwarming event to be a part of, really showing the true values Youth Sport Trust holds and I am very grateful that I got to be a part of it!

I really enjoy being a Team Leader, as being involved sport is something I have always loved, and I enjoy being that motivator for the individuals involved. When I was at school, more people did not enjoy taking part in PE and did not like sport, so I really want to ensure this doesn’t carry on, as sport can have such amazing impacts on you, both physically and mentally, and I want to ensure all students know this and really see how amazing sport is!
