School Sport & Activity Sector Partnership

Our purpose is to unite and amplify the voice of the sector, fostering collaboration and driving collective action to shape the future of P.E, school sport and physical activity, while engaging with government stakeholders for positive change.

Purpose of the SSAS

To take collective, direct action to better understand and tackle systemic challenges in our sector so that every young person can benefit from the positive outcomes that participation in P.E., school sport and physical activity offers.

To use the strength of our united voice to provide consistency of understanding to advocate for the place of positive outcomes from P.E., school sport and physical activity in schools and its importance to every young person’s personal development, health and wellbeing.

To improve the sector from within by networking, sharing best practice and providing a supportive environment for all sector parties to thrive to better provide for young people and educators.

History of the SSAS

The School Sport & Activity Sector (SSAS) Partnership came together in 2019 in response to the publication of the School Sport & Activity Action Plan. The sector had limited insight to the plan prior to its launch and the aim of the SSAS Partnership was to ensure a collective response and a united voice to government on the future of P.E., physical activity and sport in schools. There was also an ambition to drive increased collaboration across the sector and explore what could be achieved through a united action agenda.

Sector partners have continued to collaborate with the purpose being further reinforced by the ambitions of the new Sport England’s Uniting the Movement strategy in 2021. Since its formation, sector partners have created a sector pledge that has driven collaborative actions on key sector challenges.

The SSAS Partnership Forums and Summits provide a two-way communication forum with officials from across Department for Education, Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and Department of Health and Social Care.
